Not All Lasers are Created Equal
The FDA requires 3 laser treatments for successful hair reduction. The success of a treatment largely depends on the fluence (or strength) used with a laser. Many treatments at low fluence will only make the hair thinner, making it impossible for reduction and/or removal. Despite some company's claims, laser hair removal is NOT for everyone. Fair, blond hair for example, is not effectively treated using laser. Dark skin and hair must be treated very gently using laser, as the skin burns easily. Most dark skin types will not see full removal results, although correctly applied laser treatments can significantly reduce unwanted hair and prohibit ingrown hairs.
Lastly, an effective laser hair removal treatment very much depends on the application. Ask about the experience of your clinician prior to starting treatment. The laser can only be as good as the manner in which it is used! |
